Motorola CANOPY 5200APG: a guide to the 5.2 GHz PtMP access point
Motorola CANOPY 5200APG is an access point (AP) in the 5.2 GHz Canopy family. The exact operating band and settings are confirmed for the supplied version. It distributes communication to subscriber modules - so build a network where there is nowhere to pull the wire: between workshops, on a quarry, in a village without optics.

Sector and mast
One point serves the 60° sector. To close the circle around the mast, put six points – a circular coverage of 360 °. Up to 200 subscriber modules are connected to one point, the radio signalling rate is 10 Mbps; useful throughput depends on the version, settings and traffic: this is a classic PtMP architecture “one point – many subscribers”.
GPS synchronization: why the series is taken
The main feature of Canopy is a proprietary TDD protocol with synchronization over a satellite clock. Points on one mast transmit and receive in one stroke, so the six sectors do not jam each other. For this purpose, the series is put on multi-sector masts: the self-suppression of neighboring sectors is the main disease of cheap PtMP systems.
Setup
Programming - through a regular laptop on a LAN, web-interface: separate console cables and proprietary programmers are not necessary.
Second half of the network
The access point without subscriber modules is useless: the pair is 5250SMBC - technical guide module in the article «CANOPY 5250SMBC». What is included in the bridge in addition to boxes - in the technical guide 5 GHz Radio Bridge Kit.
Frequent questions about 5200APG
How many subscribers does one point hold? Up to 200 subscriber modules. 10 Mbps is the radio signalling rate, not useful bandwidth per subscriber; verify actual data transfer for the selected configuration.
What is the coverage angle of the 5200APG? Sector 60°; six points on the mast give a circular coverage of 360°.
Why GPS synchronization? With it, the points on the same mast work in the same stroke and do not interfere with each other - this is the key to multisector installations.
How does the 5200APG set up? Through a regular laptop by LAN, web-interface.
