PtP or PtMP wireless bridge: choosing a network layout

When you need to connect two objects without a cable, the choice comes down to two schemes: a point-to-point bridge or a base station for several subscribers. Let's see where it's appropriate.

Point-point

Two antennas looking at each other. All the power and the entire band is on one shoulder. This is the maximum speed and range, all other things being equal. Take, when you need to link the office with production, quarry with office, two sites of one enterprise.

Point-multipoint

Base station with a sector antenna and several subscriber stations. The band is divided between subscribers, but you do not need to pull a separate bridge to each. Take when there are more than three points and they are in the same sector.

What decides in practice

  • Direct visibility. That's the first thing they check. A tree or roof in a stem eats the connection more than the distance.
  • The height of the suspension. Raising the antenna five meters is usually cheaper than buying more powerful equipment.
  • Fresnel Zone. Even if visible, the obstacle near the line interferes - lay the reserve in height.
  • Thunderstorm and ground. On the mast, this is not an option: one discharge carries both ends of the bridge.

The speed in the passport.

Passport numeral - under ideal conditions and close distance. Plan half of it and leave the stock: the net that runs at the limit falls in the first rain.

What to send for calculation

The coordinates of points, the height of the possible suspension, what is between them and what speed is needed. We'll count the track and pick up the kit. Catalogue below.
